Boom keeps cutting off

I have been having an annoying problem with my Boom. I wonder if it is
only mine or if other people have encountered the same problem. My
Boom keeps cutting out. While listening to most internet radio
stations or music services such as Pandora, the Boom will momentarily
disconnect from the "mysqeezebox.com" server and will not pick back up
once it re-connects even though the screen on the boom says it is
playing. The song that was playing at the time of disconnect continues
to scroll across the screen and it displays that it is playing even
though there is no sound coming from the Boom. I have found only one
internet radio station that this does not happen to ("GOTRADIO Forever
Fifties"). Also, when I connect to my Squeezebox Server to listen to
my music library this problem does not occur. I initially thought that
maybe it was a problem with my WiFi setup but that is not the case since
my Squeezebox Server works fine and the one internet radio station
(mentioned above) works fine. I don't know if it has something to do
with the way most of these stations are streamed or if it is something
else. I tried changing the "buffering" setting but that does not
help.

I notice that on my smartphone, while listening to most internet radio
stations, it will cut off for a few seconds and then pick right back up
where it left off. The one radio station that never cuts off on my
smartphone is the same one that never cuts off on my Squeezebox
("GOTRADIO Forever Fifties").

When I say that the Boom keeps cutting off, I mean that it cuts off
maybe every 10 - 30 minutes. I have to press the "play" button to get
it going again. This is very frustrating because I like to fall asleep
while listening to the Boom. I set the sleep timer to 60 minutes (I
usually fall asleep prior to the 60 minutes) but because most of the
time, the Boom keeps cutting off before I fall asleep, I have to
manually get it going again.

Can someone help? Thanks.........

No solutions but experienced same behavior this week on mine. Seems to
have corrected itself in the last few days so lets hope it was
resolved.

I'm having problems with mine too. From time to time it will say that
it is "connecting" or that it cannot connect, yet the station is still
playing. I'm wondering if there is some bug in the Mysqueezebox
server?

I really want to enjoy my Squeezebox Boom but with all of these
problems I have been having I am more frustrated with it. I really
think Logitech needs to make better products - these radios are not
cheap. It's a shame that this radio experiences some problems because
for the most part the Boom really is a cool Internet radio.

Keep in mind that many people that have a boom do not experience this
problem at all. My boom never does this. I doubt the product itself is
the problem. Software? Connection? Server? Service provider? Network?
These are the more likely culprits.

Are you connecting to mysqueezebox.com through the server software or
direct from the boom?

Is it one service or multiple services you are having problem with?
Consistent problem or intermittent problem? Certain time of day?

What kind of network do you have? How is the boom connected to the
network? What are your connection speeds? (actual speed tests)

Have you looked at the log files? What do they say?

brucegrr,
I realize that not all boom owners may have this problem. I own a
multitude of devices and appliances that I never have problems with but
other people do.

My boom connects directly to mysqueezebox.com via Wi-Fi (Linksys
WRT54G2 router). I almost never have my PC turned on when I am
listening to the boom except once in a while I will bring up my
Squeezebox server (formerly called SqueezeCenter) to listen to my MP3
library (iTunes). There never is a problem whle I am listening to my
MP3 collection. Only when listening to various internet radio stations
or Pandora. Some internet radio stations play fine while others stop
intermittently every 10 - 30 minutes. When it does stop, it never
starts back up even though the boom screen says it is "playing". The
song title of the last song that was playing continues to scroll across
the screen and never changes even though no sound is coming through.

I originally thought it might be a Wi-Fi connection problem but I ruled
that out since some internet radio stations never stop on their own and
there's never a problem when listening to my MP3 collection via my
squeezebox server.

I have also noticed occasionally that while the radio is off (time is
displayed) the last song selection that was playing at the time the
boom was shut off will scroll across the screen for a few seconds and
then the time display will come back on. Also, at times while the boom
is off, a "cannot connect" message will scroll across the screen for a
few seconds and here again the time display will come back on. I
assume that maybe while the boom is in the "off" mode it is still
trying to communicate with mysqueezebox.com to keep the correct time
but I am not sure about this.

I don't know what the connection speed is or how to find out nor do I
know what log files you are talking about. Are there log files saved
on the boom itself? I have tried changing the buffer parameter to
different values but that did not help. I kind of suspect that the
problem may have something to do with the way these programs are
streamed across the internet though that is just conjecture on my part.

I had exactly the same problem for about a month, and had an ongoing
conversation with tech support. It cleared up 13 days ago after they
told me they had added new servers in Sunnyvale, CA, and spread the
previous load among them. Maybe your server needs help, too!

Is it possible for you to connect the boom via a wired connection?
(directly to a port on the router) By doing this you would be able to
rule out a wifi problem. I have a 100 ft cat5e cable I use just for
this purpose. Very inexpensive at a place like http://monoprice.com

Go to http://speedtest.net and run a test. Choose several different
servers. Run the tests during peak times, like 5-midnight and on off
peak times.

Do you have this same problem when you access the applications for
mysqueezebox.com via the server software? I am finding, it seems, that
many people have NO trouble as long as the apps are accessed through
the server software. The trouble comes when mysqueezebox.com is
accessed directly.

The server logs can be found at:

http://192.168.0.105:9000/server.log (substitute your ip address for
mine) I am using Win 7.

scanner log- http://192.168.0.105:9000/scanner.log (just for your info)

Where and to what setting did you change the buffer?
There is a buffer setting on both SBS and MySB.

I'd try setting BOTH to max (30 seconds), if not already set to max.
May as well max out the Radio Station Timeout to max (60 seconds) on
SBS, though this likely won't help you when connected to MySB (it has
no such setting).

Worth a shot. :)
